Keynote Presentation: “My Journey” by Behishta Mushtaq
About Behishta:
“Behishta Mushtaq came to DDS many years ago with no language. Now she works with us as a Literacy practitioner.
Behishta didn’t receive any formal education until she was 22. Profoundly deaf since birth, she was taught how to lip-read Dari, the language used at home in Afghanistan. At 17, she and her family fled to Pakistan and then later immigrated to Canada. It was then that Behishta entered our Deaf Literacy program and began learning to communicate using American Sign Language.
Behishta has since accomplished many feats and is now a full-time Literacy Practitioner in the DDS Deaf Adult Upgrading Program, where she teaches students much like her former self. Her journey is a source of pride – She is proud of her independence, confidence and accomplishments, some of which can be attributed to the skills learned in the DDS literacy program, but all of which are because of her determination and perseverance.”
Please RVSP below in the “AGM Registration” section. We ask that for registrations of more than 1 person, entries are filled out separately so we know how many guests to expect. Thank you!
There’s still time to renew your membership and get DDS membership perks.
You can also invite new people to become members. You must be a member since before March 27, 2023 to vote at the AGM.
